Since we released the last version (v0.4) of Test Pilot last December, we have launched 3 studies on top of it. More and more participants joined the program, and the data submission has grown from 5000 per study to 9000 per study. In order to make Test Pilot a robust platform that is ready for massive participation, we have intensively worked on improving the quality of the Test Pilot extension in the past one and a half months. Today, we are proud to announce the first milestone release of the production quality Test Pilot: v1.0 alpha.
What’s New
This Test Pilot 1.0a version includes a number of bug fixes and improvements to the user interface. In particular, it’s now easier to manage the studies you have participated in as well to access the knowledge we have learned from all Test Pilot studies. Also, this version allows you to save your test data graphics as image files, so you can always review how your study looked like at the time or simply share them with friends.
We learned a lot from creating the early Test Pilot versions. This version includes the feedback we received from thousands of pilots and developers, and some of them came from the user interviews we conducted in January – thanks to these wonderful new users, especially our new female users! If you have more suggestions for improving this platform after trying out the Test Pilot 1.0a, please let us know in the discussion forum or leave your comments for this blog.
This version does not yet allow users to add notes about their data or to export raw data for personal analysis, however. We would still need to figure out how we would manage thousands of unique user notes if we did so. If you have any suggestions, please share them with us. We’d like to improve it in future releases.

Hello,
I think that there is something wrong with the download link to version 1.0…in fact the link “https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/13661?src=installservice” still points to “test_pilot-0.4-fx.xpi” and not to “test_pilot-1.0a1-fx.xpi”
Anyway you’ve done a great work with TestPilot 1.0!!
I couldn’t install 1.0a from the links given in this post.
Instead I found a working link to 1.0a in the addon page (https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/13661) by scrolling down the “More about this add-on” section until the “Beta channel” info.
I suggest that you update the links in this post
Would be interesting to study the behavior of developers and “ordinary people” … because a test pilot is usually a programmer with different and more specific needs, isnt it?
Sorry for my poor english
The link should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out.
Maybe it’s my nonstandard theme (Strata40), but when I open the new test pilot studies dialog, the three section headers are cut off. (“Current Studies” shows as “Curre…”, for example.)
I’m using Firefox 3.7 nightlies on Windows 7.
To begin with wonderful web site. I’m not sure if it has been brought up, however , if using Safari I can never get the whole weblog to load with out refreshing repeatedly. May possibly just be my modem. Enjoy!
